Demo: An Example Groupsheets Project
- The following example project illustrates many, though not all, of the key features and benefits of Groupsheets.
- You can explore the demo by using the button below to open it in a separate browser tab.
- The text below explains some of the features and benefits illustrated by each of the groupsheets in the project.
- This project is used by a fictitious choir called "Legatissimo".
- (A more typical project for a choir comprises a larger number of groupsheets, including some for specific types of material that are of special interest to the group in question.)
Project Overview
Overview of all content in one place
- With one tap on the project's icon, a group member gets to the overview shown on this page.
- They can then quickly see how to access whatever content they are looking for.
Content accessible on any device that has a browser
- The same content is available and editable on smartphones, tablets, laptops, and workstations.
- The layout is adapted on each device to make optimal use of the available space.
Groupsheet “Event Schedule”
Formatting tailored to the specific task and content
- Each groupsheet makes use of a template that was designed specifically to handle exactly one sort of content.
- So the formatting is more useful and appealing than it could be with a more general app.
- This groupsheet shows each event in a calendar-like box; but it can also show any type of additional information about an event, including media and external links.
Structure configurable to meet each group's needs
- Each group can easily tailor a relevant template to fit its own specific situation.
- This group has specified what voice parts it distinguishes and the places where it holds its rehearsals.
- A group can also introduce additional fields not provided by the basic template, such as who will be leading a particular rehearsal.
Easy editing by any authorized group member
- Any groupsheet can be edited on any device by any group member who is authorized to edit it.
- For example, a decision made during a meeting can be recorded immediately during the meeting, so that it is available to everyone immediately.
- Each type of content is edited through an appropriate user interface element (for example, a date picker or a drop-down menu) that is used consistently across all groupsheet templates.
A built-in "navigation system" to help perform new tasks
- When you're doing something for the first time and the steps aren't immediately obvious, you can call on the built-in Groupsheets Nav (via the "right-turn" icon in the upper right).
- The Nav gives step-by-step instructions right within the app — even speaking them if you like.
- For each step, it highlights the user interface elements that you need to use.
Customized filters that allow members to focus on what's relevant for them
- For each template, there are filters that cause only some boxes — and maybe only some fields — to be shown.
- In this groupsheet, you can filter out events that have already occurred or that do not involve you.
- Each group can customize the filters to suit their own needs.
- (Other examples of filters will be seen in the next groupsheet.)
Groupsheet “Choir Pieces”
Flexible mixing of different types of content in a single groupsheet
- In this groupsheet, a number of different types of information and media are included for each of the pieces to be sung by the choir,
- In a multi-app solution, these different types of content would typically be shown in different apps— making it hard to focus on a single piece.
Powerful interactive functionality
- A groupsheet's template can include useful interactive functions that are useful for the specific type of content being presented.
- In this groupsheet, an audio file for practicing can focus on a specific segment of a piece and have it loop automatically if desired.
Groupsheet “Notifications”
No need to use email or messaging apps to keep group members informed
- Notifications to group members are sent the same familiar Notifications mechanism that is used by mobile apps.
- So there is no need to use email or messaging apps, which some group members may be reluctant to use for this purpose.
- Note: In this demo, when you tap on the "Send Notification" button, the notification will appear only on your own device — whereas in a real project it would be sent to all group members who have subscribed to this type of notification.
Clear separation between notifications and the long-term storage of content
- A Groupsheets notification simply informs the relevant group members about a particular change or addition to the content of one or more groupsheets — typically with a very brief summary and a link to a relevant part of one of the project's groupsheets.
- The content itself will always be found in the relevant groupsheet.
- So group members do not have to search through emails or messages to find particular information or media, as they typically do with multi-app solutions.
Easy composition of notifications
- Since a notification simply points to some recently changed content in a groupsheet, the notification itself can be kept short and simple
- Some parts of a notification can be automatically generated, as when an alert is sent about a part of a groupsheet that has been changed.
- The groupsheet app keeps track of which members should receive which types of notifications.
- (If you do want to send a longer notification text, you can write it in the Notifications groupsheet, where members will see it when they tap on the notification.)
Convenient accessing of notifications by group members
- Notifications from a Groupsheets project are immediately recognizable as such and not mixed in with email or other types of messages.
- Each group member receives only the types of notification that they have signed up for — and only on the devices on which they want to receive them.
- They can use the familiar general notification options to determine how prominently the notifications should be displayed on their devices.
- If they don't see a notification as soon as it was sent, they will see it when they check their device's Notification Center or directly visit the "Notifications" groupsheet for their project.
